They were from the Mohawk valley in Montgomery County, NY, butsettled in Ellisburgh early in the present century. Nicholas Weiser wasa soldier in the Revolutionary War, and famous as a scout, and wasgreatly feared by the Indians and Tories. His father, Conrad Weiser, aman of learning and genius, came from Germany in 1711, and settled in NewYork. Mrs. Rachel Weiser Ellis raised a family of four children, threeof whom are now living. She died in Ellisburg in 1858.' | |
