Sir Thomas was made a Knight of the Garter for his service fighting in
France. The Lord of Hoo & Hastings held lands in Herefordhshire and
Bedfordshire. He was made Chancellor of France and Keeper of the Seals in
France. He is buried in the Dacre Tomb at Herstmonceux Church. After his
death,Luton-Hoo passed to his half-brother, Thomas.
THE DACRE TOMB IN HERSTMONCEUXCHURCH, SUSSEX was built between 1450 and
1540 and contains the effigies of Sir Thomas Hoo, K.G. (d. 1455) and his
half-brother Sir Thomas (d. 1486). Thebrothers were probably originally
buried in Battle Abbey(they were great benefactors of that abbey), and
then moved to Herstmonceux when Battle Abbey wasdemolished.
