Archibald Campbell 7th Earl of Argyll
ARCHIBALD CAMPBELL, 7th Earl of Argyll ; b 1575; Justice-Gen of Scotland;
turned RC by 1618 and fought for PHILIP III OF SPAIN against the Dutch,
being accordingly outlawed as a traitorous rebel 16 Feb 1618/9 (pardoned
22 Nov 1621); m 1st 24 July 1592 Lady Agnes Douglas (d 3 May 1608), dau
of 7th Earl of Morton (qv) and an RC who influenced her husband's
conversion, and had, with three other daughters: 1a ARCHIBALD CAMPBELL,
8th Earl and 1st Marquess of Argyll 1a Mary; b c 1622; m 20 March 1641/2,
as his 2nd w, 2nd Lord Rollo (qv) ofDuncrub and was bur 12 Jun 1669
The 7th Earl m 2nd 30 Nov 1610 Anne (author;d 12 Jan 1634/5), dau and
coheir of Sir William Cornwallis, of Brome, and d by 29 Nov 1638, having
by her had, with other issue:
2a JAMES CAMPBELL, Lordof Kintyre (S), so cr 22 Feb 1626 with remainder
to heirs male, further cr 28March 1642 EARL OF IRVINE and LORD OF LUNDIE
with remainder to the heirs male of his body, and dsp by 16 March 1646,
when the latter titles expired but the former passed to his half-brother,
the 1st Marquess of Argyll
