Former resident dies
Mrs. Amanda Trowbridge, a former resident of this locality,
passed away February 11, 1963 at Gladwin, Michigan.
She was 83 years of age. Surviving are two daughters and three
grandchildren;
three brothers, William Brovont of Sunfield, John and Elmer of
Rossville, Indiana;
and two sisters of St. Petersburg, Florida. Burial was at Gladwin.

PASSES SUDDENLY
Services were held
Sunday for Justin M. Trowbridge, 78, who passed away
suddenly
last Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs.
John Townsend, from a heart attack.
Mr. Trowbridge had been a resident of Gladwin County for 52 years,
coming here
from Eaton County in 1903 and settling in
Sage Township. He moved to Gladwin
City several years
ago when he retired from the farm. Born Oct. 12, 1876,
Mr. Trowbridge was married to Amanda Brovont in
Sunfield on March 16, 1899.
Survivors besides
his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Doris Babcock and
Mrs. Hazel Townsend, both of Gladwin; two sisters,
Mrs. Lucy Oberlin
and Mrs. Sana Johnson, both of
Sunfield; one brother, Benjamin, of
Sunfield; three
grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Miner Funeral Home on Sunday
at 2 p.m.
with the Rev. George B. White, of the
Baptist Church, officiating. Interment
was made in Ridge
cemetery. Pallbearers were Warren Cuddie, Alt Cuddie,
Charles Weaver, Frank Riegle, Isaiah Wideman, Oney
Hetherington.

ILLNESS TAKES MRS.
TROWBRIDGE
Funeral services
were held today (Wednesday) at the Miner Chapel for
Mrs. Amanda Trowbridge, 83, who died Monday at the Day
Nursing Home.
The Rev. George K. Skene officiated and
burial was in Ridge Cemetery.
The former
Amanda Brovont was born on Jan. 10, 1880 in Greenstown, Ohio,
and was married to Justin Trowbridge on March 16, 1899, in
Sunfield.
Coming to Gladwin County in 1903 they
made their home in Sage Township.
Mr. and Mrs.
Trowbridge operated a restaurant in Gladwin and also the
Wagarville Store
for a number of years. He preceded her
in death on Sept. 8, 1954(sic).
Mrs. Trowbridge was a member of the Gladwin Free Methodist Church.
Survivors include
two daughters, Mrs. Doris (Sidney) Babcock, of Gladwin,
and
Mrs. Hazel (John) Townsend, of Saginaw; three
brothers, John and Elmer Brovont, of
Rossville, Ind.,
and William, of Sunfield; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle
Cameron; of St. Petersburg, Fla.,
and Mrs. Orpha
Adams, of Davison; three grandchildren and two great
grandchidren.

In 1936 ran a store in Prudenville on
Houghton Lake during the summers.
It had a lunch counter and served hamburgs, hot dogs, etc.
Have two postcards showing the store.
It was called "Mother Trowbridge Hamburgs Hot Dogs & Coffee".

Hazel Iona (Townsend) Cassiday, age 86, passed away Friday, June 20,
2003
at Lakeview Lutheran Manor Nursing Home in Cadillac following a brief
illness.
She lived in Cadillac, and was formerly from Gladwin.
She was born in Gladwin County on Nov. 30, 1916 to the late
Justin and Amanda (Broudnt) (sic) Trowbridge. She was predeceased by
her husbands,
John Townsend in 1992 and Bernard Cassiday in 2002.
She is survived by one son, Wayne (Judy) Townsend of Cadillac;
one daughter, Shirley Jensen of Grand Rapids;
one step-daughter, Coralee (Larry) Bush of Beaverton;
seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and several
step-grandchildren
and step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents,
both of her husbands and a sister, Doris Babcock.
At Mrs. Cassiday's request cremation has already taken place.
A memorial service will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, June 28
at the First Baptist Church in Cadillac. The family requests that
memorials
be made to the American Cancer Society.
