Children by Rebecca ?:
I. Martin PROWANT,
b. 1836, d. 1916,
m. to Eliza Jane DIEFFENDERFER.
Martin Prowant was born in 1837. He was the father of 11 sons
and daughters.
He served in the civil war.
He was the first Prowant to own the Prowant farm in White Deer.
Martin served with Co. C 143 th Regiment of the PA infantry.
He was shot in
the arm at the Battle of Gettysburg.
His name is on the regimental monument at Gettysburg.
Martin was married to Eliza Jane Dieffenderfer Prowant (d. 1904)
from Mazeppa,
PA. Martin Prowant had a long red beard. He was said to have
raised peacocks
in a field on his property. This field is now the location of
Faith Chapel
United Methodist Church. The field was filled with tree stumps.
This was
typical of the time when much of central PA was used for
timbering.
Without a
replanting program the mountains were stripped and economic
problems
followed.
The Prowant farm was a source of food and income for Martin,
Rudolph and later
Forrest.
