Vevay Newspaper Index FAQs |

· Where are the newspaper images? They are located online at the Switzerland County, Indiana’s webpage. http://www.switzerland.k12.in.us/hs_vevaynewspapers.php
· What is in the index? I tried to index all birth, marriages and deaths that I found in the newspaper that happened in the Switzerland county area. I did not include things that happened far away from Indiana and that did not mention the area. I did include estate notices, estate sales, and divorces.
· What are the types of data found? Birth, Marriage, Death, Estate (notice of an estate and administrator taking over), Sale (an estate sale or other sale that listed a deceased individual), and Divorce.
· Why are the same names and data indexed multiple times? I indexed what I saw in each newspaper. Estate notices, sales and court proceedings were listed many times to increase their circulation and notify anyone involved. Since the newspaper put it in many times, it is in the index many times. This is helpful if one issue of the newspaper is hard to read.
· Why isn’t every year indexed? The newspaper images available only cover the year 1840 and the years 1853-1901. Some years only cover a few months, depending on what was scanned.
· Why isn’t my ancestor listed in the index? There are many possibilities. The ancestor’s event was never listed in the newspaper, that issue or portion of the paper was missing (I found many images that had clippings taken from the original paper, probably where my ancestors were written), or it may be indexed incorrectly because of poor image quality or typos.
· When will you add an index by surname? I will sort all the data I have collected by surname when I finish the index.
· What do I do if I find an error? Contact me through my email or leave me a message on the blog.
