I decided that since I'm going to be running this site, I think my visitors should know something about me and how this site came about. Please pardon any puns!

About Carol

I'm Carol Sterling, (you may have guessed that by now). I was born in Middletown and raised in East Haddam. I lived there until 1994 when I married (the Navy) and moved to Virgina, currently living in New Jersey. I have a wonderful husband, Rick, and a beautiful daughter, Ashley. No matter where I live, East Haddam will always be called home.

A new addition to the Sterling family, Austin Robert was born Aug. 31, 2001. Hopefully, one or both my kids will catch the "genealogy bug".

My Family Roots

My roots aren't very deep in Connecticut (deeper than I thought). They up-rooted in Germany and were trasplanted in New Jersey and later into Pennsylvania.

On the other tree (Mom's side), they started to grow in Scotland. Later they planted a new seed in Maine and being transplanted in Connecticut.

My surnames include: BRINK, BARTHOLOMEW, DAVIS, COLE, POTTER, BAKER, HARRINGTON, SUTLIFF, DILTZ, LAUBACH, HESS and GODDARD and HUNGERFORD (by marriage).

Since I did this page, my surnames have grown. They include: BALDWIN, PARMALEE, FENN, BROCKETT, BROWN, FENN, FORD,LEETE, HOOKER, LOOMIS, PRATT,  TUTTLE & BACKUS.

Cousins to the Cone, Spencer and Hungerford and Gates in East Haddam.

How I Got Started

As you have already read, I'm a Navy wife. While living in Virginia Rick was gone a lot. I needed something to do in my spare time, (Couldn't go shopping all the time!). I started surfing the net for information on my tree. Oh, the power of the internet and all the inforamtion I found. I called my grandmother and told her, talk about open mouth and insert the foot..... I swallowed both feet, owned the phone company for the first few months getting information on the tree.

For the past five years I've been helping my grandmother gather information on the family. (Boy, has it been interesting!) I think I always had the "genealogy bug", just didn't know it until Nana made it bite me with all the information she and my Aunt Jen sent. Since then, our family has grown into branches from 3rd and 4th cousins.

History of East Haddam Genealogy

About four years ago, I was working on my personnel family web site when I recieved a call from my sister asking me "Why don't you do a site on your home town?" After I thought about it, what the hay, why not. Of course me, thinking along the lines of genealogy, I did alot of digging on the internet for East Haddam. I know that it's a small town but there has to be something on the internet for East Haddam genealogy. Boy was I surprised when I didn't find a thing with the exception of personnel sites with roots in East Haddam. I thought how ridiculous, I can't find a web site strictly based on genealogy in East Haddam.

Then I checked US GENWEB, East Haddam needed to be adopted! Since 1997, East Haddam Genealogy has been visited by hundreds of researchers looking for their ancestors. It has been moved, changed numerous times, most important.....it has grown... thanks to visitors like yourself.

Happy Hunting,

Carol
