DORAIGEN – DORRIAN – DORAN
Edward was a member of one of many “Doran clans” in Ireland. They are all unrelated (except going back to Heber & Heremon themselves, many centuries B.C.). This particular Doran clan was “O’Doraigen,” descended of the O’Neill of Ulster line. (See my “Clan Doran” website to explain these different lines.) The name was eventually Anglicised from Doraigen to Dorrian, and finally to Doran, its present spelling. (This spelling coming about around the turn of the 18th and 19th Centuries, as far as I can tell.) >> Read more about the different Doran clans – CLICK HERE (under construction).
