Lone Mountain, in Claiborne County, Tennessee, currently falls within the New Tazewell Post Office area. There is an actual mountain which extends into other counties, pictured at right, but there were also a wider community. As usual, the exact area covered by the name seems to have changed over time, but it seems to have encompassed at one time or another modern Lone Mountain Road, at least from east of Sandlick to Bear Creek Road and including several other modern roads in the area. The Claiborne County side of Walker's Ford may also have been considered a part at one time.

The Walkers began moving to the area in the 1840s and eventually, a majority of people living on or near the mountain seem to have either been Walkers or to have had children who married into the Walkers. Lone Mountain had one of the few railroad stations in the area, but a fire in the 1930s, the building of Norris Dam, and another fire in 1959 finished off the city proper.

John Jennings Kivett, in 1994, wrote a series of articles in the Claiborne Progress about the history of Lone Mountain which Joe Payne has included on his Web site. Visit the link at "More".
