Topic: Flour Mill

I have information that my family (NOE) had two flour mills in Newton County. Samuel NOE and Frank Finley NOE built a flour mill on Big Piney Creek and one on Cow Creek. I have been unable to locate any information on them. I have a letter written by a Newton County old timer with directions to the mills. This summer while I was there on vacation, I tried to locate the mills, unfortunately, the back roads were to hard to travel in the rental car, and not well marked. I tried to get to Limestone from Highway 16 without any sucess. Does ANYONE have ANY information about these mills?? (they probably don't exist anymore, this was the early 1900's to 1920) The letter I have was written by an A.C. Freeman. He mentions the following names: Jewell Reeves, Pearl Martin, Ruby (his wife), Albert Ogden & his sister Stell. In the letter he talks about a small school house on the rock creek side of the piney, where Stell taught school. When I was visiting, I did find a creek (actually a large river that I could not drive across due to the low water bridge being submerged. I did cross on foot!) Across the River I located Union School & Union Cemetery (where Samuel is Buried) I don't know if this is the school he spoke of, but it is actually in Johnson County, just across the boarder from Newton. I never did find Limestone (that I know of..LOL) Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!! lee

Does anyone know the where abouts of Bill and Alma Isabell? They left the Mossville area, and moved to Alabama, but had plans to come back to Mossville.

Lee,
From what it sounds like, you were right there at Limestone...good steep roads heading down toward Piney...a really neat place to hike and good fishing. The Frank Finley Noe that you mentioned, married into my Thomas family. The Ogdens and Noes lived at Limestone and also up around for a while down below Jim Edgmon's place (he had a grist mill) from Mossville toward Swain...the old Oak Grove school, where Noah Woods lives is was very near where some Noes lived. If you are ever up in there again. Just ask someone and they can probably tell you how to get to where you want to get :o). On my Newton County site, in scrapbook there are a couple of pictures, submitted by Judy Woods, here are the captions:
Double log cabin built by Frank Finley Noe at Limestone, Arkansas. Taken 1924, the farm had been sold to Alfred Ogden. Pictured are: Will Keck, Nettie Ogden, Pearl Ogden and Lum Reeves Frank Finley Noe and his wife Rachel Smith. Rachel was the first child of William Smith and Amanda Thomas. This picture was taken about 1906. The children are, left to right: Jannie (b. 1903) Fred (b. 1905) and Pearl (b. 1901). Jannie was my husband's grandmother. She was born at Ozone. She first went to school at Swain. Part of the cabin that is pictured was still standing two years ago...all snaked up, but partially there.
And on my Edgmon website, the following obituary, I will try to get contact for Mandy's daughter that married a Noe and see if she can help you. Think list member Ray Richardson is interested in Ogden surname...

Manda Hodge, 93 of Kansas City, Kansas died February 16, 1999 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 18, at the Morris Independent Baptist Church; burial will be in Mossville Cemetery, Mossville, Arkansas. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Maple Hill Funeral Home. Mrs. Hodge was born in Mossville, Arkansas and had lived the past 40 years in the Kansas City area. She was a member of the Morris Independent Baptist Church. Manda was preceded in death by her husband, Will Hodge, and a daughter, Daisy Edgmon. Survivors include two sons, Johnny E. Hodge and Kenneth A. Hodge, both of Kansas City, Kansas; five daughters: Mildred Clayborn, Kansas City, Kansas, Walcie Edgmon, Centerton, Arkansas, Modena McConnell, Wright City, Oklahoma, Nadine Alexander, Milton, Florida, and Maxine Noe, Kansas City, Kansas; sister, Ola Langford, Shawnee, Kansas; 28 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

Lee, the names mentioned in your letter of Albert Ogden and his sister Stell (Stella Susan) Ogden are in my geneology. They would be cousins of some sort - their grandpa Pleasant C. Ogden 1829-1878, is my ggg-grandpa (figure that out, lol). And I have a cousin from Tennessee, John Richardson, who has spent some time in Newton county digging around and looking for things and I believe he may have found Limestone, since that's where some of our ancestors lived. I'll have to check with him on that.

Judy,
Just for your information............... there are about 5 of us on here, myself included, that I sometimes get 2 copies of the same e-mail from. Sometimes someone is answering a message that I have not received yet, but I caught on to what was going on so if there was a message I don't understand I keep that message to see if I receive the original message the person was replying to. I know you have been trying to work some bugs out and I would rather receive a duplicate message than not receive it at all. So I am not complaining.....this is for your information only incase you were not aware this happens here. I only have 24 hours in a day............I swear you must have at least 72 to be able to accomplish all you do. : -)

Hi Anita,
Yes, a few days back (can't remember just when), when messages went out through the list, your provider was busy or 'unable to contact' and the messages to your email address would then be cycled back to attempt delivery...that could be reason and probably is reason for duplicate or out of sequence emails. But am pretty sure that problem is no longer taking place, as I changed the position of your email, as well as another members position on the list, and am no longer receiving error messages of unable to deliver to either email. Neither one of the email addresses is bouncing messages back. Thanks for the feed back, is helpful as I work through things.
Take Care, Judy Tate

Ray,

Who are the Daniels you are interested in? Lewis Daniels son of Jeremiah Daniels and Susannah Self married Martha Casey daughter of Jesse E. Casey. I have info on many of their descendants - right down to the present. Also Dedemiah Daniels, sister of Lewis married Levi Newton Casey son of Jesse E. Casey. Let me know if this is your Daniels line.

Just noticed something in my Jesse E. Casey book - Are you by any chance married to a Hudson? If not there is a Ray Richardson who is!

Dear Ella,
Would you happen to know who the parents of Della Duck born 6-3-1890 and died 4-2-1931 in Mt. Judea she married Bailey Van Nichols. Biley later married Eula Daniels but they divorced and Bailey is now buried beside Della in Mt. Judea and my favorite uncle Bailey's son George W. Nichols bought them a double headstone, he is so sweet and loved his father very much as did I and alot of other people.

If you will contact me off list I will give you a couple of names. of living descendants of Samuel Self and Mary S. Clark. I guess it would be OK to post them to the list but I'm not sure. I am assuming you meant living descendants not just descendants in general.
