Topic: Mystery Here

I recently received the below in an email from Phyllis Tuttle. She submitted her Mother's story to the Newcoa Newsletter, Issue July 2000...titled as Memories of Newton County by Susie Viola Harris Champlin. The story can be found: Newcoa Newsletter If any of you have read this story anywhere else other than on my website, please let me know. Apparently someone contacted Phyllis wanting to print the story in a Newton County Newsletter (think this newsletter must be a printed and mailed newsletter...I don't know anything about it). I have replied to Phyllis telling her that no one has contacted me about using her Mother's story elsewhere, so I can't help her contact this person who is unknown to me...I have not given anyone any info off any of my webpages to be used in any publication of any kind. If you can provide information, please do. Phyllis would really like a copy of whatever it is that her Mother's story might be in. And if there is a Newton County Newsletter that is mailed out every three months, I would also be interested in learning how to receive. Thanks for any help with this.
Take Care, Judy Tate
Following from Phyllis Tuttle:
Judy, a lady wrote and asked to use my mother's story and I told her yes but could she send me a copy when it was printed. She agreed but I haven't received a copy and i've since changed computers and lost her email address. The lady said she wrote a Newton County Newsletter that came out every three months. Don't remember her name but she said she was affiliated with the Historical Society She said you gave her the info so could you tell me how to contact her for a copy supposed to have been printed in November. Thanks, Hope y'all had a great holiday.

Topic: Scrapbook Options Added

The Newton County Scrapbook will be a year old next month. It is one of the more popular features of the Newton County, Arkansas website. Due to the sharing nature of so very many people, it continues to grow, now has over 400 hundred items with many more in the works (meaning that I am behind in formating several additional to go line). Because of that growth, I have came up with three viewing options:
1. has been the primary viewing option up to this point..where the visitor scrolls through page 1 and follows the next index page link for page 2 and so on, for consecutive index page viewing. The following option has recently be activated:
2. If Item # is known, click on appropriate Album Page to locate and view:
For instance, if your item # is 233, you would click on Page 3, locate # 233, click and view.
Page 1, Item #'s 1-100
Page 2, Item #'s 101-200
Page 3, Item #'s 201-300
Page 4, Itme #'s 301-400......
A third option is in the works, but not yet activated...it will be an option in which Item #'s will be grouped under name of person who submitted. For instance, If you are John Doe and have submitted four Items and they are numbered 1, 2, 3, & 4...those numbers will be grouped under your name. Due to multiple surnames appearing in a single picture, an alphabetical index of scrapbook items is out of question...so the above viewing options are the best that I have been able to come up with. Thanks to all of you for your interest in submitting pictures...it has helped the scrapbook to be what it is...a popular feature on the Newton County, Arkansas site.
Take Care, Judy Tate

Message From: Becky Dean Counts
Topic: Dean and Davis Family

I am looking for information on the Dean Family Line. My dad was Ray Dean, born to Town Dean and Zella Davis Dean, Town's father was John Dean b. 1854, married to Elizabeth Betty Dickey Dean, John's father was Jack Dean ? or Jonathan Jackson Dean. The Dean Cementery in Newton County has many of my kinfolk.
I am also looking for information on the Davis side. My Dad's mother was Zella Davis born to Arkansas Rena Reny Helfey Davis and Alfred Davis. Alfred Davis was born to Daniel Davis and Nancy Crawshaw. Alfred and Reny are buried in the Cowell Cementery and Daniel and Nancy are buried in the Smith Cementery. But I can find no other relations on Davis side.
Thank you

As for me I love Judy's site and I think of everyone as friends and I've never thought anyone was acting rude or in a bad fashion. I like getting these notes from everyone even if they all are not just for me. When we all read them maybe someone will be able to help where no one else could. I think that was what Judy intended, that alot of people read the notes and maybe someone out there may have an answer.

Message From: James Harris
Topic: Job Application

Parenting Want Ad
If they wrote a help wanted ad for the job of parenting, who would have the guts to apply?

JOB DESCRIPTION: Long term team players needed for challenging permanent work in an often chaotic environment. Candidates must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and be willing to work variable hours, which will include evenings and weekends and frequent 24-hour shifts on call. Some overnight travel required, including trips to primitive camping sites on rainy weekends and endless sports tournaments in faraway cities. Travel expenses not reimbursed. Extensive courier duties also required.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Must provide on-the-site training in basic life skills, such as nose-blowing. Must have strong skills in negotiating, conflict resolution and crisis management. Ability to suture flesh wounds a plus. Must be able to think out of the box but not lose track of the box, because you most likely will need it for a school project. Must reconcile petty cash disbursements and be proficient in managing budgets and resources fairly, unless you want to hear, "He got more than me!" for the rest of your life.
Also, must be able to drive motor vehicles safely under loud and adverse conditions while simultaneously practicing above-mentioned skills in conflict resolution. Must be able to choose your battles and stick to your guns. Must be able to withstand criticism, such as "You don't know anything." Must be willing to be hated at least temporarily, until someone needs $5 to go skating. Must be willing to bite tongue repeatedly.
Also, must possess the physical stamina of a pack-mule and be able to go from zero to 60 mph in three seconds flat in case, this time, the screams from the backyard are not someone just crying wolf. Must be willing to face stimulating technical challenges, such as small gadget repair, mysteriously sluggish toilets and stuck zippers. Must screen phone calls, maintain calendars and coordinate production of multiple homework projects. Must have ability to plan and organize social gatherings for clients of all ages and mental outlooks. Must be willing to be indispensable one minute, an embarrassment the next. Must handle assembly and product safety testing of a half-million cheap, plastic toys and battery operated devices.
Also, must have a highly energetic entrepreneurial spirit, because fund-raiser will be your middle name. Must have a diverse knowledge base, so as to answer questions such as "What makes the wind move?" Must always hope for the best but be prepared for the worst. Must assume final, complete accountability for the quality of the end-product. Responsibilities also include floor maintenance and janitorial work throughout the facility.
POSSIBILITY FOR ADVANCEMENT AND PROMOTION: Virtually none. Your job is to remain in the same position for years, without complaining, constantly retraining and updating your skills, so that those in your charge can ultimately surpass you.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE: None required, unfortunately. On-the-job training offered on a continually exhausting basis.
WAGES AND COMPENSATION: You pay them, offering frequent raises and bonuses. A balloon payment is due when they turn 18 because of the assumption that college will help them become financially independent. When you die, you give them whatever is left. The oddest thing about this reverse-salary scheme is that you actually enjoy it and wish you could only do more.
BENEFITS: While no health or dental insurance, no pension, no tuition reimbursement, no paid holidays and no stock-options are offered, job supplies limitless opportunities for personal growth and free hugs for life if you play your cards right.
Must be a very popular position. Since everyone has parents.

Ruth,
You pass this onto Georgia. The Villines people are good stock. Have been fortunate to meet a few of these very fine people over the years. In particular a Clyde Villines there at Boxley. He was a decent man with a heart of gold. The brakes on my old Pontiac gave out just below Ponca. He came along and picked me up out there in the middle of no where. And told me that I'd have to stay at his place until I could get to Harrison the next day. He took me to his house, feed me a great supper and gave me a comfortable bed. And next morning after a stout pot of coffee and breakfast he took me to town and then helped me fix the brakes. And he had never seen me before that day. I was a complete stranger, but he treated me like an old friend.
