Topic: Brack Champlin

Judy do you take the Newton Co. Times? I know it is not on line. I was wondering if you would put the Obit. of Brack Champlin on for me when you see it. It should have already have been in but his brother who is my brother in law ( William, Bill, Champlin) is in Jasper now trying to make the arrangements but he was out on Mt. Judea yesterday and could not get into town . He was married at one time to a Strode also. He will be buried at Mossville.

Bert,
I have an extra Old Folks Talking. I ordered two copies the first week it went on sale...one for myself and one for momma. She read through her copy and when finished she told me I could have it back...she was somewhat 'put out' at several mistakes. There are mistakes, but I still think it is a nice book. I will follow Patricia's suit...you pay the S&H and it is yours. Is your address same as it was in June? Let me hear.

I have been researching for a Arkansas Memory Project I am completing for my American Studies Class at the Arkansas School for Math and Sciences, and came across your scrapbook. Picture 98 struck my eye! The guy on the right looks similiar to a guy named James Williams who lived near Boxley. I found the picture of James on page 119 of Old Folks Talking written by Jim Liles. The book can be found at Boone County Library. I am not sure of a connection, but hope I have been of some help. Also, if you have any information about the Buffalo River Controversy which forced many individuals to leave their homesteads it would be greatly appreciated. Any research direction or information would help me!

Dear Judy,
I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to you, but I have a very bad case of flumonia. Kind of a mixture of both. I really do thank you Judy you do such a kind service to everyone lucky enough to find your site. Myself included everyone that asks me for information, I try to find what I have then send them to your site. I think you are a wonderful lady. Yes I did love that wonderful man, to me he was an angel I know he wasn't perfect but when he was dying of cancer, I became very ill, being run down and all. He wanted to give me his bed and let me rest while he sat in the chair in his room. I wouldn't let him of course, but that was the type of man he was. He knew he was dying and never once did he ask why me. He told me God only promises us 70 years and he was living on borrowed time. So to say I love him just doesn't seem enough I felt that I needed to let everyone know how special he was and still is. Thank You Judy for letting me express my feelings I feel alot better for having wrote that letter. One of your grateful people.

Yes, I do understand. It is so nice to talk with someone who lives in Ark. I was born and raised in Newton, County. Compton to be exact. We now live in Az. We have lived here for about 30 yrs. I guess we don't deserve to be called Arkies anymore, but I like the term anyway. I have 2 brothers and 3 sisters. We all live within 140 miles of each other. We are a very close family but sometimes we do get on each others nerves. Anyway it is nice talking to you. You can write to me anytime. By the way I am the same age as your Mother.

Have also place the current Book Round List online: Book Round List ...where you can view the titles and descriptions of the books currently in the Round. Book owners should book mark that page and refer to it often, to keep up to date on the movement of your book through the Round. If you have questions, please holler out.

Anita,
This may lead you in a direction to work in and find something out, and it might lead you in the wrong direction... Once when at a decoration at Mossville, a group of four or five were standing there near a grave of a young Boen...probably the one you mention. One of the men told another that it was kin to Elizabeth. The Elizabeth he refered to would have had to have been Elizabeth (sp) Bowen, who was wife of Abner Casey. Maybe she was this young person's aunt? I just don't know. And come to think of it, I don't think I know who Elizabeth Bowen's parents were. Do you know who I am refering to...do you know her parents? Now I have something else to think about too :o).

Topic: The Cross

The young man was at the end of his rope. Seeing no way out, he dropped to his knees in prayer. 'Lord, I can't go on,' he said. 'I have too heavy a cross to bear.'
The Lord replied, 'My son, if you can't bear its weight, just place your cross inside this room. Then, open that other door and pick out any cross you wish.'
The man was filled with relief. 'Thank you, Lord,' he sighed, and he did as he was told.
Upon entering the other door, he saw many crosses, some so large the tops were not visible. Then, he spotted a tiny cross leaning against the far wall
'I'd like that one he whispered.
And the Lord replied, 'My son, that is the cross you just brought in.'
When life's problems seem overwhelming, it helps to look around and see what other people are coping with. You may consider yourself far more fortunate than you imagined.
YOUR CROSS
Whatever your cross,
Whatever your pain,
There will always be sunshine after the rain.
Perhaps you may stumble,
Perhaps even fall,
But God's always there,
To help us all.
Funny how you can send a thousand 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing. Spread the Word and give thanks to the Lord for He is good! Funny isn't it when you go to forward this message how many on your list are not receiving it because you're not sure they believe in anything.

In a recent email from Thomas Niswonger, (editor Newton County Historical Society) he stated that until the society can pay off the huge loan that they took out to print Newton County Family History II, they will be unable to work on any new publications. The Chaney cabin that they are restoring is/has set them back as well. From Thomas: "Family History II book sales make us some money." I told him that if he could think of anything that could help, I'd be glad to convey through this list and on my wesite...if any of you have ideas how we can help the society out, please share your thoughts.

My thought is to have one person that everyone sends their donation to, then that person turn the total donation in to the Historical Society in one lump sum.
