This is Harry's car and we can find the year by his car, he always had a new car (we thought, anyway). They are standing in front of Grandpa and Grandma Woodard's place with the Woodard's Potato House in sideground.
Ernest and Harry went to Deer High School together, the picture was made about the time they graduated from Deer...Ernest's parents were Nellie and George Daniel and they lived at Lurton but, Ernest was raised by our Grandpa and Grandma Ephraim and Martha Woodard. He lived all his growing up years here in their home beside the road to Mt. Judea...about three miles from Lurton, near the Tarlton Cemetery.
Grandpa Woodard's ten acre lake is there next to the smoke house. The smoke house is now gone, but the lake is still there...and the sunsets behind it each day are still as breathtaking as when I was ten years old...
Grandpa had a big apple orchard next to the smoke house and each tree was a different kind of apple. Neighbors would come over and test each one and guess about its kind. I can still smell the ripe apples from that orchard, they were red and orange, some with stripes and some were yellow with red blush on the side...each with a special smell and taste.
Grandpa Woodard ordered the little trees from a seed catalogue from far away and we could not wait to see what they looked like and tasted like. He called each one by the name and I do see these names in seed catalogues now and then. Since that time, I go around buying one of each apple in the grocery and still have not found the taste and smell of some of his apple crop.
The above picture is owned by Lebrisha Mock, and sent in by Lloyd Sutton...
After seeing the picture, Colleen Haynes Rongey shared her memories...Thanks go to each of you!
