In the early years of his married life and especially after two boys were born, the traveling from one area of the United States to another became quite a burden on Cornelia and the boys. So, I. C. bought some property near what is now Lurton, Newton County, AR. This was around the year 1915, and there wasn't even a post office nearby.
Cornelia made application to the postal department to establish a post office. They required her to submit to them, five names to select from, for the community name. The one that was chosen was Lurton, her sister's married name.
In 1921 I. C. opened a general store and gristmill. Then about 1925 he began making split bottom chairs. This was the beginning of his business career in the hills of Arkansas, and led to many greater events.
From Harry Sutton, I. C. Sutton’s son...submitted via Lloyd Sutton ...Thanks go to each of you!
