Wade Edgmon was the son of Jesse Edgmon and Martha Watson...Jesse was son of Edward Edgmon and Sarah Guthrie... Edward was son of Philemon Edgmon and Abigail Sparks...Philemon was son of Thomas K. Edgemon and Nancy Percy.
My children descend from Leither Edgmon, a brother to Wade's dad, Jesse Edgmon.
This picture was taken early one spring at the Mossville Cemetery in Newton County, Arkansas. My momma had told my children of how when children, her and brothers, sisters, and cousins made whistles out of hickory sticks. They would cut a stick from a green hickory...about 1/2" around, 10" or so long...slip the bark, cut a notch, and have a whistle. When not playing the whistle, they kept it in a fruit jar of water to keep it moist so it would last longer. I had been talking with Wade that day about the whistles. We went for a walk in the woods and cut several hickory sticks. He sat there against the tree and worked for over an hour trying to get the bark to slip from the sticks...wanted so bad to make the children some whistles...but it was too early in the spring and the bark would not slip. The tree they were leaning against had provided shade for the church for many years...it was cut down a few months after this picture was made...soon thereafter Wade was found to have cancer. Wade was buried in the Mossville Cemetery the day before Decoration Day 2000...always first Sunday in June. An Edgmon Reunion has been held there for the past few years on the last weekend in June...2001 plans are to hold it in September.
