Flooded With Memories

When I found this picture, I was flooded with memories of Grandpa. I didn't know him very well. He was a very private person...

I remember one day he and daddy were talking about money. He got a 100 dollar bill from his wallet, he handed it to me and said, "I bet you have never seen one of these before, have you honey?" I told him no, then started to walk away with it because I thought he had given it to me. It broke my heart when he took it back. I was probably about 8 yrs old then.

Grandpa always wore a hat. One like in the picture, and sleeve garters.

I don't remember him ever giving me a hug or anything. He did trot my sister Carolyn on his knee and sing:

                     Du Dum A Du Dum A Day
                     Du Dum A Du Dum A Day;
                     Hey ole man, how far is it to Little Rock?
                     I don't know, but there's a great big one right down there!
                     Du Dum A Du Dum A Day.

How weird, but I remember that so well. I guess I was a little put out because he didn't let me set on his lap, and didn't sing to me.
