To all to whom these presents shall come or may concern Greetings know yee that at New Yorke the two & twentieth day of May instant before me the Last Will & Testament of Jellis Mandevielle decd annexed to these preesents was proved approved & allowed of haveing while he lived & at the time of his death goods chattles & credits in divers places within this province by means where of the full disposition of all & singular the goods chattles & credits & the granting ye administration of them also the hearing of account callcullation or reckoning of ye administration and finall discharge & dismisson from the same unto me alone solely & nott unto another imprimus judge are manifestly known to belong & the administration of all & singular the goods chattles & credits of ye said decd & his Last Will & Testament in any manner of ways concerning was granted Elsie Mandevielle widdow relict & executrix in the said Last Will & Testament named cheifly of well & truly administrating the same & of making a true and perfect inventory of all & singular the goods chattles & credits & exhibiteing ye same into ye secrys officiator before the two & twentieth day of Novr next ensueing & rendring a just & true acct callcullation or reckoning being duely & lawfully sworn upon the Holy Evangelist of Almighty God in testimony whereof I have caused the prerogative seale to be hereunto affixed at New Yorke ye 22n day of May instant anndtm 1701
In the name of God Amen the fifteenth day of Septemr in the eighth year of ye reign of our Sovereign Lord William the Third by the grace of God King of England Scotland France & Ireland defenfr of the faith & c & in the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred ninety & six I Jellis Mandeveill of Grenwich in the County of New Yorke being of sound & perfect health of body thanks be to Almighty God for the same, I calling to mind the uncertainty of this transitory life & that all flesh must yeild unto death when it shall please God to call & being desirous to settle things in order to make this my Last Will & Testament in manr & forme following revoking & absoluely and unwilling by these presents all & every testament & testaments will & wills heretofore by me made & declared either by word or by writeing norwithstanding any promise to ye contrary or clause derogatairry in the same & this to be only taken for my Last Will & Testament & no other
First I bequeaath my soule unto Almighty God my Maker & to Jesus Christ my Redeemer & to ye Holy Ghost my Sanctifyer & my body to the Earth from whence it Came to be buried in Such Desent & Christian Manner as to my executr hereafter named shall be thought fitt & convenient there to rest untill my Soule & body shall meete againe & be joyned together at the joyfull resurection & be maide pertaikers of the never failing joys of Imortality wch God in mercy through ye merrits of Jesus Christ alone hath promised & prepaired for all those that truly & unfeignedly repent & beleive in him and touching such temporall estate of goods chattles & debts as ye Lord has been pleased far above my deserts to bestow upon mee I do order give bequeath & dispose there of in mannr & forme following.
Impremis I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife Elsie Mandeviell all my estate reall & personall during her naturall life or till she shall happen to remarry then & in such case I give only to my said wife ye equall half or moyety of all my estate reall & personall
Secondly I give & bequeath unto my son Hendrick Mandeviell in preference to all other gifts & in right of being ye eldest sonne all that my farme or plantation lyeing & being in Queens County upon Nassau Island in ye jurisdicton of Hempsteed together wth all the houses barnes stables fences improvements meadows & appurtances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining
I give & bequeath unto my son David Mandeviell for & in consideraton of his Great Services and other Sufficient reasons & motives me thereunto moving in preferance to all other gifts & before any dividend be made all that my negro called Peter together wth the sume of fifty pounds amt money of this province to hee to be paid to him by my executs hereafter named.
I give & bequeath all the rest of my estate both reall & personall to all my children namely Hendrick Mandeviell David Mandeviell Tryntie Mandeviell now wife of Cornelious De Senn Heltiesz Mandeviell now wife of Lawrence Johanson Gerratte Mandeviell now wife of Peter Meett & Gerittie Mandeviell now wife of John Meett to be equally divided between them without any preference to male or female sexes
It is my further will & desire & speciall comand that my farme or bowery at Greenwich upon New Yorke Island now in my possession together wth the houses barnes stables orchards fences & other ye appurtances therunto belonging shall be sold to ye highest bidder of all my aforess children & ye money equally to be divided between them and I do hereby further impower & authorize my executr there after named or one of them to give & pass sufficient deeds of sale & conveyances for ye same in one forme
And lastly I do hereby ordaine constitute & appoint mysd wife Elsie Mandeviell to be sole executrix of this my last Will & after her decease I nominate & appoint my two sonns Hendrick & David Mandeviell execur of this my Last Will & Testament in wittness where of I the sd Jellis Mandeviell have hereunto sett my hand in New Yorke the day & year before written

Lieut Govr & Comandr in Cheife of the
province of New Yorke Symon Breesstead & Samll Bayard & made
oath upon the Holy Evangelist that were wittnesses when Jellis Mandeviell
did sign seale publish & declare this instrument to be his last
Will & Testament & at the time of his doing thereof he was of sound memory &
dispossing mind to the best of their knowledge then also Elsie Mandeviell the
executrix then named & took ye oath of an executrix
