As a child my daddy, Errol Haynes, worked for stave mills all over the county and we lived in tents and old store buildings. I remember living at Mossville, Fallsville, Moore, Deer (twice), Swain, Richland, and the postoffices where we got our mail. Last year I had a letter from Paul Bennie from Missouri, who lived in Mossville as a child.... He told me of his memory of the old mill camp there. He said he would never forget the day when he was about four years old, he and his sister were playing in the woods and smelled light bread baking...He said they followed the smell and it came from a tent in the mill camp. My mother, he said a pretty black headed lady... Iva (Woodard) Haynes saw them outside her tent and invited them inside to have some fresh baked bread with butter and jelly...Said he would never forget the taste and smell of that bread.
What a blessing to me to hear this story sixty some years later...
