| Comments: | Hi Judy! What a wonderful new addition to your already fantastic Newton County Pages! Can you please add picture of my grandfather, Edwin Finley WELLS, b. 1858 Cass Co., IL. He is thought to have died in the Walnut, Newton Co., AR, area between 1910-20, but we have not yet found a death record or grave marker for him. My grandmother, Minnie GOUGE WELLS, had an old postcard which was addressed to her in Walnut, AR, in her Bible. It mentioned sending money to her, and we think that she had asked for the money to help her and their 10 children survive after Edwin died. If you can put his picture up on your scrapbook pages, maybe someone will recognize him and help us find his death info. Unfortunately, the picture is very faint because it was a copy of an old photo which had deteriorated badly. But, his features are somewhat intact and may be able to be identifiable. They were married in 1850 in Warren County, TN and moved to Newton County, Arkansas in the 1850's. I have not been able to find a death date for either one of them. They are purportedly buried in Liberty Cemetery. Can anyone tell me when they died. Does anyone know if there was a newspaper in Newton County, from circa 1880 on???? |

| Comments: | They were married in 1885 in Crittenden County. They had three children, Johnny, Charlie, and Pearl. Johnny died at 14 in a shooting accident, Pearl died as an infant. Last record we have of Charlie is in 1910 census where he was shown living with his mother, a widow. We know that Mr. Guthrie died before 1903. I do have a very old photograph of the family. It's condidtion is poor, but I will be happy to share with anyone who might be interested. |
