Name: J Brittain <judyb@pdq.net>
Date: 2000-05-02
Requested Surname: Claxton (Clarkson/Clayton)
Full name, if known, of husband: Zachariah/Zachary Claxton
Comments:
Found David Claxton with wife Eliza in 1850 Lawrence Co, AR; 1860 census also shows them in Lawrence Co, AR with a son Zachariah age 8. Found them again in 1870 Newton Co, AR census - just Eliza and son Zachariah, age 17, b TN. BLM records show a Zachary Claxton buying land in 1888 & in 1901 in Newton Co, AR. Do you have any information at all about him? I don't know if he died there but checked all the online cemetery plots and didn't find him. He was distant kin to Claxtons who lived in another part of AR and all came from Bedford Co, TN at different times. I have not yet been able to look for him in 1880 - 1900 censuses and have no idea if he married or not.
Any help would be deeply appreciated. Note: The name "Claxton" is often "read" as Clarkson or Clayton on the censuses.
Many thanks!

I am trying to obtain infomation about my grandmother whose name was Lieutitia Martin. She was married to A. J. Criss of Cassville in Newton county Arkansas. I have a copy of their marriage license dated March 21, 1893. The clerk of the county court was. H. L. Burch. The filing # was 220. I will be in Missouri in June and will try to come to see if I can locate any information about her. My parents are dead and I did not have any information about her except that she was from the Chickasaw background. I have no idea what her mother and fathers name were. Name: Richard Sparks <Cowboy@rio.bravo.net>
Date: 2000-04-10
Comments:
My name is Richard Douglas Sparks, son of Jearl (and Rosa) Sparks, youngest son of Richard (Dick) and Irene Sparks of Mossville, Arkansas. I was amazed when my daughter showed me your site. I spent many summers of my childhood stomping the hills, spending a lot of time at the post office. My grandparents house was about a quarter of a mile north of the church. You might be interested to now that Ola Rader, the last of Richard and Irene, is fighting cancer and not expected to last many more months. When she leaves us it will be the end of a great era. Do you have any compilation of photos or stories that we could get to her for her to enjoy in her last days. I'm certain she would be more than happy to share her memories or just receive contact from her past. If you are interested or have any ideas, please let me know and I'll be glad to get you her address. We buried my father in the Mossville cemetary a few years ago. I have fond memories of my grandfather and, I forget his name other than Edgmon, whose wife ran the post office at the time (early to mid sixties), sitting out on the porch, smoking their pipes, telling stories. Thanks for stirring up some very fond memories.
Richard Sparks

Judy,
I can't thank you enough for contacting me. I have spent several hours going through your beautiful Newton Co. AR site. It is fabulous!!!! I had looked for a Newton Co. page quite some time ago - without any luck.
So I am very glad to find it. I was especially glad to find Will & Amanda's burial place in Mossville Cemetery. I felt they were probably buried in Newton Co. but did not know for sure. I am going to get some pictures and
information together and send them in a few days. It will be on the NOE line - as I haven't done much on the Thomas line. I have some on William Smith's line, but not much.
I will also be sending this website to several other family researchers who I know will be interested.
I am so excited!! :^)
Thanks again - I will stay in touch.
Judy Woods
Eufaula, OK

PS After reading the "wagon train" story , I contacted Nancy. The last line in her story says that some of those family came to Eufaula. Even on
the internet - it is a small world.
