According to the above
census record, Ida was the mother of four children, all of whom were still
living. Erastus’ occupation was listed
as “drug clerk”, and the two daughters were noted as “at school”. At the time of this census, the family was
residing at 240 West 7th Street
(his late father’s home), along with Erastus’ divorced sister, Augusta
(Edgerton) Emerson and her son Edgerton Emerson. Erastus and Ida’s only son, Arthur Garfield
Edgerton, was residing at this time in Fargo, Cass County, North
Dakota. He
was enumerated there in the household of Arthur Harris (pg. 176; dwelling
#14; family #25; enum. June 1, 1900), as:
“Arthur Edgerton, partner, b. March 1881, Minnesota,
aged 19, single, father born in Minnesota
and mother born in New York.” His occupation was listed as “day laborer”.
Our thanks are extended to
Mrs. Marianne (Stein) Edgerton, of St.
Paul, Minnesota,
for providing information on the family and descendants of Erastus and Ida
May (Ricketson) Edgerton. Marianne’s
husband, Vernon Arthur Edgerton, is a great-grandson of Erastus and Ida
Edgerton, through their only son, Arthur Garfield Edgerton. Much of Mrs. Edgerton’s genealogical
materials on this family were compiled by Phyllis Burley Schwanke, a
descendant of Erastus and Ida’s youngest daughter, Marinda Banker (Edgerton)
Burley.
