A History of the Village

This town is documented in the historical records to be over 1200 years old. The presence of the Pressler/Bressler family there has been documented for the past 400 years. Here's a brief history of Hochstadt.

The Pressler/Bressler Family in Hochstadt

It is probable that all Bressler/Pressler families of Hochstadt are related and descended from a common ancestor, but the loss of early records through the ravages of time and war has made it impossible to identify a relationship between the nine distinct families that have been identified from the 16th century.  See the newly discovered census which shows Presslers were in Hochstadt as early as 1494.

An American Presley Visits Hochstadt

In April 1999, Donald W. Presley of Little Rock, Arkansas, visited the German ancestral home of the Preslar/Presley family. His hosts, the Pressler/Bressler family and the people of Hochstadt in southern Rheinland-Pfalz gave him a warm and royal welcome.  Experience the visit to the ancestral village by clicking here.

The Pressler Winery

One of the highlights of Don's visit was to the Pressler Winery in Hochstadt. While it is a post-World War II company, it continues the wine-country traditions of the 18th century American immigrant, Johann Valentin Pressler. Click here to visit the Pressler Winery
