RICHARD COSTELLO & CATHERINE FAHEY | According to documents obtained from the South Mayo family Research Center the marriage of Richard Costello & Catherine Fahey, my G/gp's, occurred in 1828 in the vicinity of Ballindine/Claremorris in Co Mayo Ireland. In the following years til 1856 there are baptismal/marriage records for 7 known children. There may have been other children as the last child was, Edward, bap: 1856. Some of the names are familiar, as I recall from conversations with my father & these folks may have come to NYC, USA. The Costellos and Costelloes are the decendents of the Anglo-Norman name de Nangle, who arrived soon after the "conquest" (read 1066), and settled in Connacht. The name is recorded in the "Annals of the Four Masters", with references, dating from the year 1193, when the name had changed to Oistealb. The name futher evolved to MacGoisdelbh and subsequently, to MacGoisdealbh. L ater anglicized to MacCostello. Their stronghold was established in the Barony of Costello, near Ballaghaderreen then in Co Mayo, but now in Co Roscommon.

WILLIAM , b: 29 November 1901, served in France during WW1 with the US Merchant Marine; migrated to LA; son Edward J Hibert as well as other descendents reside there (Ed reported that he & family sat through Hurricaine Katrina, then abandonded the residence for 2 weeks, returned 13October2005, no loss). From Gwen Schilling, Williams daughter......."My dad left Westfield, age 15. Was actually put out by his stepmother from 'her' home. He joined the Merchant Marine, was in France ( WW1 ) & discharged in Louisana and the rest is the beginning of my generation and partial break from the Hibert's. I remember dad speaking of an Uncle Tom with whom he had a good relationship in his growing years . His mom passed at age 45. I'm sure that was the beginning of his downfall. Grandpa's remarriage was when he realized he was not the welcomed stepson. Joe ( the youngest boy ) & Eddie (the second son) were still young enough that she could control. So sad when we are young - family gone is family forgotten".

A third brother has been identified in the Claremorris parish baptismal records, as follows: " 21 Sept 1856-Edward of Richard Costelloe and Catherine Fahy-sp-James and Catherine Mullaney --Kilbeg Malone-- officiated by Fr Peter Reynolds" The source is the Claremorris (in Co Mayo Ireland) parish records-Film # 1279207. The place where Edward was born is Kilbeg Malone, a townland, in the Poor Law Union of Claremorris, Civil Parish of Kilcolman; Barony-Clarmorris. Apparently Kilbeg is about a mile from the main town of Claremorris-north. Ed-The parish records come from Claremorris main church, which is St. Colemans. In the years of the records, apparently there were different sub churches within that same parish. Since St. Colemans is the main church in Claremorris, assume that is where they are. I wrote to Fr. Gleeson there @ one time, and he sent me a typed copy of the actual handwritten records,(that included only the page of My ggrandfathers baptism date) that I got through the LDS. His address was just--Fr. Gleeson-P.P., Claremorris, CO. Mayo, Ireland. There was not a specific church in the address, and assume it is ST. Colemans. Have I confused you further?? Janet
