"Location: Haggerty School at Haggerty Ridge Rd & Gillen Rd in Littleton ME, c1900; The Haggerty School and all of the other one room schools closed prior to 1951 when the Littleton Elementary School opened. It is located on Route 1. The Haggerty School on the Ridge Road is now a house occupied by the McAffee family".
"The Haggerty boys had a gathering place on the Ridge called the Burdock, where lots of people came to dance & enjoy--several people played their violins, guitars, accordians and sang. (Note: They also 'drank' a little & 'necked' a little, I was 12 year old witness at the time,~1940. EDC) They say it was built in a field of burdocks and that is how it got its' name."
