In the 1930 National Census, the family was living on Willard St, Houlton at $30/month rent w/o a radio; Herbert, of Canadien birth & possible "Loyalist" lineage was an automobile salesman who came to ME in 1915 but was not then a USA citizen, in his automobile work, he had to take horses & mules "in-trade" for new automobiles; Elsie was a saleslady in a department store; their children, Arthur & Ruth Dibblee attended school; also living at home were Elsie's children with, now deceased, John Lee: Earl C Lee, a laborer, his wife, Blondie & their son, Earl J Lee

CLEMENT

PAINTER NAIF

Born in AY, France 1943 Champagne, Marne

Yvon Jeannot chose to be known as the Artist “CLEMENT” in honor of his grandmother Jeanne Clement. “CLEMENT” is a primitive painter of Parisian street scenes and three-dimensional constructions.

At the age of twelve “CLEMENT” began working in his father’s Boulangerie (bakery) where he stayed for several years. In his early twenties he was employed at his father’s hotel. He fulfilled his military obligation in Algeria, France and Germany. He later worked as a metal sand-caster, packaging designer, stage actor, and bistro waiter.

In 1980 CLEMENT came to New York City where he started to create his own paintings and display on the streets in New York. For many winters he also had one-man shows of his work in Ecuador and Venezuela where he received very positive press reviews. In New York City he continues to show his work and participates in outdoor art shows in New York and New England.

At a time when artists were losing their rights to display on the streets in New York City, the group “A.R.T.I.S.T”. It was created to preserve the rights of these artists. CLEMENT became one of the group’s Founding members. His involvement with petition signing, protesting, and marching helped bring about success; in 1997 the Federal Court granted artists the right to display their work on the streets of New York City with no license needed.

“CLEMENT” is married to Color Photographer Marguerite O’Brien. They have one child, Jocelyne Jeannot, who is currently attending Lehman College in the Macaulay Honors Program. Scheduled to graduate June 2011.
