1. Thomas Sr. Johnson1 was born about 1750 in Possibly Lancaster Co., PA. He died in 1828 in Longfork, Pike Co., KY..2 He is reference number 44. One of our best Johnson researchers, Jimmie Jackson, writes: ThomasJohnson Sr. was probably born abt 1744, just where is unknown. His wife'sname was Sarah, last name unknown. The
first known record for our Thomas was in 1781 when he is reported asbeing a Private in a Loyalist Company commanded by Captain William Paynein District 96 of South Carolina. I would have to say that this is wherehis son (my ggggg grandfather) got his name from - William Payne Johnson.Thomas Johnson Sr. later owned a farm in Rowan Co, N.C., according toseveral depositions given for Sarah Johnson Stapleton in her husband'sThomas Stapleton's Rev War Pension file. This would be from
about 1782/3 until the early 1790s when he relocated to Tenn.
