The certificate was too big to be scanned in its entirety. Missing from the image is
part of the top line of the document as well as most of one
signature at the bottom of the document.
In the transcription below, handwritten elements in the original document are indicated
by italics.
It seems unlikely that Abraham Lincoln actually signed
this document. First, Lincoln typically
signed his name as "A. Lincoln," rather than writing out his first name as was done
here.
Second, his signature closely resembles the one directly below it, of his secretary
Stoddard. Many presidents have had aides and mechanical devices sign documents
for them, particularly routine ones such as this. Finally, Lincoln was commanding the
Civil War at the time this document was signed, so it seems particularly likely that
he would not have had the time to sign it himself.

THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,
TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME, GREETING:
Whereas, In pursuance of the Act of Congress
, approved MARCH 3, 1855, entitled "An Act
in addition to certain Acts
granting Bounty Land to certain Officers and Soldiers who have been engaged in the
Military Service
of the United States," there has been deposited in
the GENERAL LAND OFFICE, Warrant No. 47,557 for 160 acres, in favor of
Harrison Davis, Private,
Captain
Thompson's Company, Oregon Militia, Cayuse War
with evidence that the same has been duly located upon the South East quarter of
Section twenty seven, in Township
nine North of range Eight of Mount Diablo Base and Meridian, in the District of
Lands
subject to sale at Marysville, California, Containing one hundred and sixty acres,
according to the Official Plat of the Survey of the said Land returned to the GENERAL
LAND OFFICE by the SURVEYOR GENERAL, the said Warrant
having been assigned by the said Harrison Davis, to Isaac N. Wilson, in whose
favor said tract
has been located,
Now know ye, That there is therefore granted by the UNITED STATES unto the said
Isaac N. Wilson, as assignee,
as aforesaid, and to his heirs,
the tract of Land above described: To have and to hold the said tract of Land, with the
appurtenances thereof, unto the said Isaac N. Wilson,
as assignee, as aforesaid, and to his
heirs and assigns forever.
In Testimony Whereof, I, Abraham Lincoln
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, have caused these Letters to be
made Patent, and the SEAL OF THE GENERAL LAND OFFICE to be hereunto
affixed.
GIVEN under my hand, at the CITY OF WASHINGTON, the fifth day of
