Glad Acres

Glad Acres was a 20 acre, nicely forested, piece of property owned by my Grand Aunt and Uncle (my grandmother’s sister). It sat adjacent to the Triangle-M Ranch. The place was named for my grand aunt, Gladys (Ethel Gladys [Hubbard] Stegner). This was a place of many memories for me. My grand uncle taught me the proper use of fire arms, about the native plants and animals and recounted many a tale of his years as a U.S. cavalry officer in this home. The house, out buildings, reloading shed, wells, and their contents all perished in the Pine Fire of August 2002. My grand aunt and uncle spent the last 30 or 40 years of their lives there. The loss of Glad Acres, and it’s memories, was devastating for the family. These photos were taken the day after the fire.
