    1. Washington County PA Paper (probably Wahington Observer)
            Mrs. Lydia McD. Sprowls (to see Photo GO TO  )
            Mrs. Lydia McDaniel Sprowls, widow of Frank H. Sprowls and member of one
            of Waashington's well known families, died suddenly last night about 10 o'clock
            at (September 11, 1939) her home, 800 West Chestnut Street.  She had been ill
            of a heart ailment but her condition had not been considered serious.
                A daughter of Andrew J. (Jr)  and Mary McDaniel, Mrs. Sprowls was born
            and had spent practically her entire life in Washington. She was a member of the
            Third Presbyterian Church.
                Two sons survive: Andrew J. Sprowls, Blawnox, (Pa) and Montgomery
            Sprowls, Baltimore, (Md). She leaves three sisters, Mrs Emma McDaniel Hart,
            Mrs. Bird I Anchors and Miss Tillie McDaniel, all of Washimgton, (PA)


    2. OBIT  Washington Observer Reporter   Death May 31, 1930    Photo GO TO
                 William Claffey (Jr. ), aged 55, died at his home, 715 Addison St., this morning
            at 3:00 o'clock after an illness of three years.  He had been an employee of the
            Hazel-Atlas glass company for the past 40 years, and was a former president of
            the 8th Ward Playground association.
                Besides his mother, Mrs Mary Claffey, of Washington, he leaves his wife,
            Mrs. Mary B. Claffey, and the following children: Shirley (DeRoy Claffey) and
            George (Kenneth) Claffey, of Pittsburgh (PA);  (William) Loren Claffey (and
            Joseph Harold  Claffey) of Washington (PA), and Guy Patterson Claffey at home.
                He also leaves the sisters and brothers: Mrs Lida Wilson, Mrs. Tilda Ritchey,
            Wilson Claffey, Jack Claffey, Harry Claffey of Washington (PA), and Robert
            Claffey of Greensburg (PA).  The funeral arrangements will be announced later.

                 Friends of Shirley DeRoy Claffey, who died Sunday, Jan 23, 1966, will be
            received in the H. Sampson, Inc. Funeral Home,  537Neville Strre, Pittsburgh,
            (Pa) where services will be held at 1 p. m. Jan 26. Burial Washington Cemetery.

                Longtime Elks treasurer was AAA board member.
            Guy Patterson (El Paso) Claffey, 90, of Southminster Place, Washington (PA),
            formerly of 30 Sharp Ave. , Washington, (PA) died Wednesday, October 4, 1995,
            in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington.
                He was born June 23, 1905, in Washington, a son of William and Mary Belle
            Miller Claffey.
                Mr. Claffey attended Chtistian Missionary Alliance Church, Washington, and
            was a 1926 graduate of Washington High School.
                He was traffic coordinator for Hazel Atlas Glass Co. Plant # 2, which later
            became the Continental Can Co. and Brockway Glass Co.  He was later employed
            as a traffic dispatcher for Suwak Trucking and retired in 1967.
                Mr. Claffey was a life member and board member of BPOE No. 776 and
            served as its treasurer for 21 years.  He was a member of the Traveler's Protective
            Association of America, Post F of Washington (PA) serving as its president for 16.

             Joseph H. Claffey died April 23
            Joseph Harold (Bus) Claffey of RD5, Washington (PA) died Friday April 23, 1976
            in Montefior Hospital (Pittsburgh PA). He was 72.
                Born May 25, 1903, in Washington, he was the son of William (Jr) and Mary B.
            Miller Claffey.
                He attended the East Buffalo United Presbyterian Church and was a member of
            the Glass Bottle Blowers Association.
                He worked for 38 years in the Hazel Atlas # 2 and Brockway Glass Company as
            a shipper before retiring in December, 1965.
                He also was a drummer with various local bands in the 1930's and 1940's.
                In 1928 he was married to Doris Perry of Nashville Tennessee, who survives.
            Also surviving are (one son) Edwin Arthur Claffey of Houston, Texas; one
            daughter, Carol Ann, wife of Glenn Mounts, Washington RD#5, three brothers,
            W. Loren Claffey , Washington, Guy P. Claffey, Washington RD#5, and George
            K. Claffey, Pompano Beach, Florida: also six grandchildren.
                A brother, Shirley D Claffey, and a sister Iona Zook  , are deceased.

                William Loren Claffey, 88, of 608 Fayette St. , Washington (PA), died at 1:55
            a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 1986 after a lengthy illness.
                He was born August 5, 1897, in Washington, a son of William (Jr) and Marybelle
            Miller Claffey.
                Prior to his retirement in 1962, he had been employed as a shipper in the Hazel
            Atlas Glass Plant # 2.
                Mr. Claffey had been a member of West Washington United Methodist Church
            since 1923.
                On August 30, 1919, he married Lillian Crumm. who survives.
                Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one daughter, Mrs. Edward (Eleanor)
            Kinnally of Bedford, Va.,  two brothers, Guy P Claffey of Washington and George
            Claffey of Pompano Beach, Fla., eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
                Deceased are one son, James Claffey; one sister Iona Zook and two brothers,
            Shirley and Joseph Claffey.
