JOYCE C. KISER Joyce Ann Carpenter Kiser died Saturday, March 13,
1999, at her residence.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 15, 1999 at
Christ United Methodist Church, 410 North Holden Road, Greensboro.
She was a native of Raleigh and the daughter of Nell Taylor and Patrick
A. Carpenter. She was born on May 4, 1934 and had lived in Greensboro
since 1957, with the exception of two years, when she and her husband
and sons, lived in Spartansburg, S.C.

She was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church where she
has served as a youth Sunday school teacher, youth counselor, member of
Women Society (former circle president), choir member (former
president), member of the Official Board (former secretary), Trustee
(former secretary).

She was a 1952 graduate of Needham Broughton High School, Raleigh, and
the next year attended Womans College (UNC-G). She had been involved in
a number of activities at the University including Chair of the Annual
Giving Drive, member of the Musical Arts Guild, Spartan Club and
currently the Excellence Foundation.

The Greensboro Symphony Guild and Symphony Orchestra captured much of
her attention and love over the last 30 years. She has been active in
the Guild since 1968 and has served on numerous committees and in
leadership positions. These include: President of the Guild, Chairman
of the Presentation Ball, Symphonette, Womans Chorus, Special Events,
Long Range Nominations/Awards committees. In 1995, she was the
recipient of the Barbara Cone Award for distinguished community service
in the advancement of music and leadership in church, preservation,
educational and literary circles.

After being on the Board of Directors of the Symphony Orchestra for a
number of years she was elected President for a two year term in 1997.
At the end of the 1997 and 1998 season, termed as many, as the most
successful in its history, she resigned due to sickness. She received
special recognition from the Symphony Board of Directors when they
dedicated the '98-'99 40th Anniversary Season to her. The dedication
read ``For her steadfast leadership, positive outlook and unfaltering
graciousness which have been an inspiration to all who met her. As
president of the Smyphony, she was committed to audience growth, a
balanced budget, success through cooperation, and a deep love for the
Greensboro Symphony Orchestra. It is with love and respect that we
dedicate this 40th Anniversary of the Greensboro Symphony to her.'' She
also served on the Symphony Endowment Committee.

Mrs. Kiser was involved in many other community and civic activities
which included: past president of Grimsley PTA, Greensboro Preservation
Society Board and Chair of the Blandwood Ball, Board Secretary of the
Greensboro Opera Companions, Vice President of the Historical Book Club
of North Carolina, member of the N.C. Museum Associates, Area
Co-ordinator of the Cancer Crusade, Board of Directors Music For A
Great Space, Inc., President of the Woman's Golf Association of the
Greensboro Country Club and President of the Bonne Terre Garden Club.

She was employed by the law firm of Mordici, Mills and Parker of
Raleigh and Burlington Industries in Greensboro.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Mose Kiser, Jr.; sons, Mose
Kiser, III and his wife, Jean, Patrick Stewart Kiser of Greensboro and
his fiancee, Lilia Korol of Chisinau, Moldova; sister, Barbara O'Neal
and her husband, Jack of Raleigh; granddaughters, Taylor Forbes Kiser
and Margaret Stewart Kiser of Greensboro; nephew, David Bryan of Garner
and niece, Kathey Saieed of Raleigh.

The family will receive friends at Forbis & Dick, North Elm Street
Chapel from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday.
