Emily Crenshaw writes, "Great grandfather Bolinger Sylvanius Lafayette was a son born out of wedlock to Margaret Bolinger (They believe the father was a Rhyme whose family owned a cotton mill in Gaston County).11
"His mother and father were listed as Margaret and George Bolinger."61
EBCIII speculates that S.L. Bolinger's father may be George Rhyne for the following reasons. First, Emily Crenshaw says that S.L. Bolinger was born out of wedlock to a Rhyme. Second, Jody Hill's information that the father was listed as George Bolinger. EBCIII surmises that George was the father's real name, but Bolinger was used because it was the name of the out-of-wedlock mother. Finally, there is a George Rhyme in the Civil War muster rolls, but his real name is George Rhyne. George Rhyne is listed in the 1860 Census Records, and his residence was in Lincolnton, Lincoln Co., NC. (Note that there may have been two George Rhynes, George and George C. George C. Rhyne was mustered into the same Civil War Company (B, 28th Infantry NC) as Michael Kiser and Moses Stroup, Jr.) |
