Solomon Dunagan, son of Isaac Dunagan from Orange Co NC and Mary West from Orange Co, was born 4 May 1793 in Greenville in northwest SC. He married twice. His first wife was Elizabeth Turpin, and they married 2 February 1816 in Wayne Co KY. She was born in 1796 at from Greenbrier, VA, and died about 1821 in Wayne Co. Solomon then married Sarah Fords Foss on 28 June 1821 in Wayne Co. She was born 28 February 1806 in KY. Sarah died in Wayne Co KY on 30 September 1869 and Solomon died there on 29 May 1870. He and Sarah had eleven children, all born in Wayne Co KY-

a.   Mary Jane Dunagan, b 9 Jun 1822. There was a Wayne Co marriage between Polly Dunavan and Samuel Young on 3 April 1836. Mary did marry in 1855, at age 33, which was rather late for a woman to marry in the early 19th Century. So that 1836 marriage was probably Solomon’s daughter; not of Solomon’s brothers had a daughter named Polly / Mary who would have been of age to marry in 1836. From Mary Jane’s 5 July 1855 marriage to Thomas William Grubbs in Wayne Co, she had five children by 1868. (W,125m)

b.   John Andrew Dunagan, b 21 Nov 1826, died 15 October 1847. He never married. (W)

c.    James Dunagan, b 23 May 1829, married Rebecca Molen on 1 February 1853 in Wayne Co. She was born 10 October 1833 in Wayne Co. James died 26 August 1867 in Wayne Co. They had four children. (W)

d.   William Alexander Dunagan, b 16 Oct 1832, married Ellen F East [E4c6c5d3] on 10 May 1851 in Wayne Co. (W)

e.   Abraham M Dunagan, b 6 May 1834, married Sarah Jane Anderson. She was born in Sullivan Co IN in 1839. Abraham died 13 April 1878 in IN. They had five children between 1858 and 1872, all born in IN. (W)

g.   Thomas Jefferson Dunagan, b 28 Feb 1836, married Mary Ann Simpson on 21 March 1866. (W)

h.   Elizabeth Harriet Dunagan, b 3 Jul 1838, married Robert Bethel Ferguson on 8 November 1852, and married JKames Parmley. James was born 19 May 1810 in Wayne Co and died 8 January 1881 in Wayne Co. (W)

i.     Solomon Henry Dunagan, b 28 Apr 1841, married Mary Matilda Loveall on 11 November 1860 in Wayne Co. She was born 1 August 1844 in Wayne Co. Solomon died at Bath, Knott Co KY on 5 April 1926. They had five children-

Isaac A Dunavan, Solomon’s brother, married Elizabeth Shipley in Wayne Co on 7 June 1821 and they had eight children. James Lemuel Dunavan, another brother, married Patsy Katy Johnson in Wayne Co on 23 August 1818 but they apparently had no children, or left the area. There were other Dunavan marriages in Wayne Co in the early 1830s, too early to be those of the children of Solomon. (W,125m)
