"Dona" married 2 James Columbus HUGHES 1, son of William Henry HUGHES and Mary Emma, on Nov 25 1886 in Randolph County, Arkansas. James was born 3 on Nov 12 1860 in Maries County, Missouri ???. He died 4 on Sep 16 1946 in Randolph County, Arkansas and was buried 5 in Janes Cemetary, Randolph County, Arkansas.

Highly respected citizen of his community, Randolph County and Ravenden Springs, Arkansas. He founded "Hughes Chapel" a small church on the Hughes Homestead at Ravenden Springs. My understanding is that he often preach there and may have been of the Assemby of God belief. However, his funeral service was conducted at a Methodist Church and some member of the Hughes and other families were involved in several Free Will Baptist Churches. James Columbus' background has strong hints that his earlier family life likely had strong religious connections. There seems to be hints that at one time the family may have lived in loose family religious communities groups.

It seems the family had a tradition of name geographical landmarks after the family. A the time, the creek that runs through the old Hughes Homestead was also called Hughes Creek and the large hill to the east was called Hughes Hill.

I have also discovered that James C. Hughes at one time served on the Ravenden Springs school board.

James C. Hughes, age 75, one of the most highly respected citizens of Randolph County died at his home at Ravenden Springs Monday, September 16, 1946.

Jim was born at Raleigh, Missouri (Came from Rolla to Arkansas, born in Maries County, Missouri) November 12, 1860, but had made his home in Randolph County for about 60 years.

Funeral Services were held at the Ravenden Springs Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Watts officiating. Interment was in the Janes Cemetary with McNabb Funeral Home in charge.

He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Dona F. Hughes; 7 children, Edgar Hughes of Yuma, Arizona, Henry Hughes of Sulphur Rock, Arkansas, Mrs. Annie White, Thomas J. Hughes and Mrs. Emma Hackworth of Ravenden Springs, Mrs. Rosie Riddle and Mrs. Birdie Gann of Trumann, Arkansas, Mrs Lena Heflin of St. Louis, Missouri and a number of grandchildren and great grand children.
