Earley/Killoughey family

1. Michael KILLOUGHEY m. Julia McCORMACK, b. CIR 1818, Ireland, occupation Housewife, d. 25 Jan 1923, Chicago, Cook Co., IL, buried: Mt. Olivet Cemetary. The name "Killoughey" is variously pronounced in the US family, but in Ireland it is pronounced "Kil-LAH-hee" with a slight catch at the back of the mouth on the "h" of the last syllable. An elderly member of the family in Ireland suggests that the family Gaelicized an earlier name forced on them by the English in the 17th Century such as "Duck" or "Duke". The Irish word, "loughy" means "Duck." Julia: According to her death cert. Julia was in the US for 36 years at the time of her death. That would mean she emmigrated in 1886 or thereabouts. There is some confusion about her parents' names. According to the death cert., her mother's name was also Julia with a maiden name of "McCormack." Her father's name is listed as "Michael" with no last name. Her home at the time of her death was 6821 Elizabeth which may have been the Oak Forest Infirmary.
