     John S. Somers was born in 1824 in Vermont.1,2 He was the son of Bartholomew Somers and Jean Morrison.1

     John married Mary Wallace, daughter of William Wallace.1

     John and Mary appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Barnet, Caledonia County, Vermont, enumerated Jul 21, 1860, with their children Herbert and Alice.2

     The family moved to Green Mountain, Iowa in 1863.1
