     Prudence Thayer Somers was born on Jul 20, 1826 in Barnet, Vermont.1,2,3,4 She was the daughter of Robert Somers and Harriet Almeda Sheldon.1

     Prudence married Walker Minor Gilkerson, son of John Gilkerson and Elizabeth Minor, on Nov 12, 1846 at the Methodist Church in Compton, Québec. The marriage was performed by Benjamin Slight, and was witnessed by E. Slight and M. A. Lane.5,6

     Prudence and Walker appeared on the 1851 Canadian Census of Orford township, Sherbrooke, Canada East (Québec). Listed with them were Walker's daughter Jane, and Walker and Prudence's children Ambrosine and Lawrence.3

     Prudence and Walker appeared on the 1881 Canadian Census of Sherbrooke, North Ward, Sherbrooke, Québec with their children Clarence, Willard, Marion, James, William and Solomon.4

     Prudence died on Dec 18, 1902, in Illinois or Minnesota, at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 28 days.7 She was buried in Minneapolis, Minnesota.7
