     Charles Madden was born on Jan 3, 1847 in Massachusetts.3,4,2,5,6,7,8,9,10,11 He was the son of James Madden and Cornelia (?).2

     He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of West Farms, Westchester County, New York in the household of his parents.4 He appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Plymouth, Wayne County, Michigan in the household of his parents.2

     Charles married Mary C. Johnson, daughter of Thomas H. Johnson and Mary Johnson, on Sep 21, 1867 in Salem, Michigan. The marriage was performed by H. B. Taft. Witnesses were G. Madden (probably Charles's brother) and H. C. Taft.12,7,8,13

     Charles and Mary appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Bedford, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, enumerated Aug 10, 1870, with their son Claude. Also in the house was Charles's brother George.5

     Charles and Mary appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Olean, Cattaraugus County, New York, enumerated Jun 19, 1880, with their children Claude, Charles, Mary and Enos.6

     Charles and Mary appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of 303 Van Buren Street, Brooklyn, New York City, Kings County, New York, enumerated Jun 7, 1900, with their children Elwood, Linnet and Natalie. This census shows that Mary had 9 children, with 6 still living.7

     Charles and Mary appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of 321 Woodland Avenue, Queens, New York City, Queens County, New York, enumerated Apr 22, 1910, with their children Beaumont, Linnet and Natalie, and their granddaughters Naomi Eloise Van Velsor and Ruth B. Van Velsor. This census shows that Mary had 9 children, with 5 still living.8

     Charles and Mary appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of 8556 106th Street, Richmond Hill, Queens, New York City, Queens County, New York, enumerated Jan, 1920, with their children Beaumont, Linnet and Natalie.9

     Census records show that Charles worked as a harness maker.

     Charles died at home on Feb 27, 1923 at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 24 days.14,10 He was buried on Mar 2, 1923 in Flushing Cemetery, Flushing.14,10
