Mercella and Edward appeared on the 1871 Canadian Census of Montcalm Ward, Québec West, Québec. Also in the house were their children William, Maude, Lucy, Fanny, Gilbert, Harry, Fredrick, Nora and Mary, and another child, Harriet Hawkins.3
