BIOGRAPHY OF HAROLD PASCAL DYAR (1883- ?)
The obituary of his father, Paschal Merritt Dyar
(1833-1904), states that Harold was 13 years old when his
mother died in 1897. His father died in 1904 when he was 20
years old and still in high school. He graduated in the
Class of 1904 from Ontario High School (a class of 13
students), but the 1903 yearbook makes no mention of him in
the classes of 1902, 1903 or 1904.
We do not know where he was at school during 1902 and
before.
During the school year of 1903, Harold was quarterback of
the football team and the captain of the team for the last
three games of the season -- which the team lost. In the
last game, on 13 OCT 1903, Harold was hurt at the beginning
of play and was unable to participate in the rest of the
game.
Harold was also a tennis player for Ontario High: "He wasn't
as good as he might have been, but at any rate Dyar made
that wonderful Gay of Redlands, second best tennis crack
going to high school in Southern California, tremble lest he
should fall from his lofty pedestal. The outcome of the
contest [the first league tournament on 9 JAN 1904] between
that tall specimin of humanity and the intrepid Dyar, was
certainly close. When Gay at last came out victorious he
must have ... thanked his lucky star that he placed the ball
where Dyar couldn't return it" (Fasti [1904], p. 71).

1909.The young physician had patients in the institution at different time s,and was thrown much into the society of the assistant superintendenta nd a mutual attraction developed, although none of the keen-eyed pupilnurs es suspected that a love affair was being carried on almost under
their very eyes."Dr. Dyer is 28 years old and his bride eight years his se nior. Noinformation could be obtained this afternoon as to when the weddi ng would
take place."It was at his home at 461 South Warren St. that his grandfathe r, MarshallRoswell Dyer, died on 22 May 1920. In 1931, his uncle Ki rk M. Dyer wroteonly that he was an M.D. in Syracuse, Onondaga, Ny, and th at he had no chi ldren.
