Maidenhead, February 3
Burglary - During the night of Saturday last some thieves entered the dwelling house of
Mr.C.Duncan, of Hill House, Taplow, by cutting under the drawing-room window, they visited various rooms, broke open the cellaret, and regaled themselves with a bottle of wine and some cake they found there. They afterwards decamped, taking with them a quantity of plate and other articles, among which was a soup ladle, sixteen table spoons, thirteen desert spoons, twelve tea-spoons, two sauce-ladles, sugar tongs, salt spoons, japanned tea tray, two pairs of women's boots, &c. Three suspicious looking men were seen in the village on Saturday, and also the next day , on their road to London. A reward of £50 [?] has been offered by
Mr.Duncan for the apprehension of the thieves.
Sudden Death - This week as the widow of
Thomas Sharp, hay-cutter, of Cookham, who had been out for the day and returned home apparently in good health, was retiring to rest she was heard by her lodger to scream out "Oh! My head," and he hastened to her assistance, but found her lifeless.
