Will & Inventory of Simon Spanswick of Edington near Hungerford Berkshire 1717





This is the last Will and Testament of me Simon Spanswick of Edington within the Parish of Hungerford in the County of Berks yeoman . I Give and Devise unto my Nephew Roger Spanswick Eldest Son of my late Eldest Brother and to his heires and assignes for ever All my Messuage Lands Tenements and hereditamts with the Appurten… whereof I am Seized in fee Simple in the Parish and County aforesaid to the sole use and behoofe of my said Nephew his heires & Assignes for ever : Charged and chargable nevertheless with an Annuity yearly Rent charge or sume of forty Shillings of lawful money to be paid unto my Brother Thomas Spanswick or his Assignes during the term of his natural life at the feast of the Annuntiacion of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Michaell the Archangell in every year by equall porcons And with power to distreyne for the said Rent charge or any part thereof if the same shall not be paid within fourteen dayes next after either of the said feasts as shall first happen next after my decease Alsoe I Give unto my Nephew these goods following now being in my Dwelling house;to wit in the Inner Chamber two Beds with the Bedsteads , Blankets,Bolsters,Pillows,Sheets and whatsoever else hath belonged to or been used with those Beds or either of them;Alsoe I Give him my Mealwhitch and Bell mettall Pott and alsoe my long Table in the hall . All the rest of my household goods I Give unto Elizabeth my wife which with her Right in the Copyhold Estate I shall dye Seized of and her Right of Dower in the said fee Simple Estate will be sufficient Livelyhood for her. Alsoe I Give fifty pounds of lawful money to wit to my said Brother Thomas twenty pounds thereof to be paid to him within six months next after my death And to my three Nephews Simon Spanswick,Thomas Spanswick the younger and John Spanswick (Sons of my said Brother Thomas) ten pounds apeice : whereof ten poundsto my said Nephew Simon shall be paid to him within twelve months after my decease; and the said ten pounds apeice to my Nephews Thomas the younger and John shall be paid to each of them within six months after they shall severally attaine to the full age of one and twenty years And it is my Will that the four sumes of money last menconed amounting to fifty pounds shall be paid by my Brother John Spanswick out of the Sume of One hundred pounds he hath in my hands of my money. All the residue of my personall Estate Consisting in money Credits Cattle and Goods relating to husbandry ,my funerall Charges & Debts being paid .I give unto my said Brother John Spanswick and to my said Nephew Roger Spanswick whome I doe constitute Executors of this my last Will and Testament relying on their Integrity in the due performance thereof . And doe Revoke all former Wills and Testaments by me made.

In witnesse whereof I the Testator Simon Spanswick being now of Sound mind and perfect memory have hereunto sett my hand and seale the sixth day of January in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seaven hundred & Seaventeen.
