When the US entered the war in 1941, I and many of my friends were still in high school and too young to serve. In our youthful ignorance we all feared that the war would be over before we could enlist. However, the U.S. Navy allowed enlistments at 17 years of age and soon I and several of my buddies were sailing with the Fleet. The experience was very different from anything we had imagined ... for some, it was the LAST experience of their life. It is to these boyhood friends, who gave all, that this page is dedicated. |
