I am a GG grandson of Devil Tom born in Franklin, Ky. where he died. He had no middle name as was the custom in that time. He is referred to as Thomas Marshall McClanahan since his mother was Mary Marshall and to distinguish him from cousins of the same names. Neither did his father have a middle name Smith.

Certainly his mother was never given a middle name Sophronia as there is no evidence to support this! You need to correct the family information you have in the Ancestry family tree, it is incorrect and misleading. My cousin Patije Stayer invented the Sophronia middle name and admits that is not true.
