I looked over with interest your Genealogy on the Dunn Family. First off, my name is Steve Henning and I have been interested in Genealogy for many years. I noticed your Dunn Genealogy includes Helen Johnson who was married to Orlo Rahn. Helen, or "Johnny" as she goes by, is my sister-in-law's mother. In looking over the Iowa 1925 State Census records which recently came available on Ancestry free for the month of March, it list's Myrtle Dunn's mother as "Elizabeth Ebersole/born about 1869" and her father as "Ira Dunn." I noticed your Genealogy lists Myrtle's mother as "Frances Bovard". While I have no active interest in this family line, I thought I'd let you know of my findings so that you may check this discrepancy out. I have always found the 1925 Iowa State Census to be pretty reliable and it is the only census to list a person's father and mother with maiden name.

You can check out Myrtle Johnson (b. about 1894; mother to Helen Johnson who was married to Orlo Rahn) at the below web site in the 1925 Iowa State Census. Helen was born in 1922. There are two pages to this Census so you need to look at both pages. If you are unfamiliar with this census, the second page lists the info on the mother and father for the person's being enumerated. Myrtle was married to Harold Johnson and living in Tama in 1925 so you can search under her married name. It lists her father as Ira Dunn and lists the children living at home with her to be: Mildred, Lloyd G (possibly your Gordon) and Hellen (I think it should have been spelled "Helen").

Again, the 1925 Iowa State Census lists the father's name and the mother's maiden name. [Steve Henning]


It is very tempting to incorporate the January 1, 1925 Iowa Census into this file. The census lists Myrtle Johnson and family, Garwin, Tama, Iowa, USA:

The second page of the census then identifies her father as Ira Dann [easily read as Dunn] but then it states that this Ira Dunn/Dann was born in Ohio. Additional research is necessary to insure that the linkage to Helen Johnson m Orlo Rahn is in fact the same linkage back to Ira John Dunn. [Liz Dunn Schuck]
