bullet  General Notes:

DEATH OF G. W. PINSON

Mr. G. W. Pinson died at his home near Jordonia last Saturday morning at about 6 o'clock, and his remains were taken through this place Sunday for Liberty in Dickson county, where Dr. Walton preached the funeral in the presence of a large audience on Monday and the remains were lain to rest in the old family grave yard. There could be quite a history written about him, but as the obituary will likely give in a concise form the most striking portions of the life of this most worthy and highly respected gentleman, we will desist. A goodly number of his friends and sorrowing relatives of Davidson County fol-lowed the remains to their last resting-place. We tender our sympathy to the bereaved family.

bullet  Research Notes:

An error is noted in the obituary relative to his date of birth.
The Pinson Family Bible records the birth date August 26, 1847 - not August 6, 1847 [I. B. Walton]

OBITUARY

G. W. Pinson died at his home near Jordonia, Davidson county, about 6 o'clock in the morning of the 1st of April. His disease was consumption, that insidious invader that does its work slowly but surely.

Mr. Pinson was born August the 6th, 1847, making him at the time of his death 45 years old. Some 16 or 18 years ago he made a profession of religion and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church, but there was, we are sorry to say, several years of that time that he seemed to give up all interest in religious matters until after the death of his sainted wife---when he again became concerned about the great future, and was frequently heard to say from that time until his death that he was not afraid to die. Eight children (five sons and three daughters) are left to battle through life without parental example, or admonition. May the great Shepherd of souls temper the winds to the shorn lambs, and by and by, when life's fitful fever is done, bring the scattered flock to meet in one inseparable reunion, where the tears of widowhood and orphanage will be wiped away forever. His father volunteered in the late war, and went out in defense of his country, but never returned, and the family till this day remains ignorant as to what was his fate. William being then 15 or 16 years of age, the oldest of the three boys, took charge of the out-door business, and with the instruction and industry of one of the best of mothers, and the aid and economy of three faithful sisters, made plenty upon which to live and some to spare to help the needy. But a few months interveined between the death of the mother and her oldest boy. May the rest follow on and overtake them on the other side.

bullet  Marriage Notes:

The mother died, Anna died… and I've looked at her death and the birth of their last child, she died a few days after Bobby was born. She was a young woman. Then Lizzy Belle, being the oldest girl, tried to hold the family together. They did fairly well until the father died a few years later. Then the family dispersed. Pill just started working, I believe he was about 10. I don't think the children kept in close touch after that. The girls - Aunt Lizzy, Aunt Grace and Aunt Maggie did but the boys didn't.
