William married Maria UNKNOWN. Born abt 1818.[15] Maria died ? .

3. Samuel RATHMAN. Born on 17 Oct 1817 in Berks Co, PA.[17] Sp: Samuel Meyer Beir. Samuel died in Berks Co, PA on 5 May 1893; he was 75.[18] Occupation: Farmer.

From Page 980 of the book, "History of Berks County, Pennsylvania" by Morton L. Montgomery: "HOWARD C. RATHMAN, a representative citizen of Berks county, Pa., who is well-known as an educator in Brecknock township, where he conducts a five-acre truck farm during the summer months, was born Jan. 6, 1868, in Brecknock township, son of Samuel and Catherine (Griffith) Rathman. John Rathman, grandfather of Howard C., was born in Cumru township, where for the major portion of his life he was engaged in farming. He died May 17, 1870, in his eighty-third year. He married Catherine Hoffert, and to them were born these children: Jacob, of Spring township; Henry, of Brecknock township; David, of Reading; William of Brecknock township; Samuel; and Peter, who lived with his brother Samuel and died unmarried. Samuel Rathman was born in Cumru township, Oct. 21, 1818, and died May 5, 1893. For some years he worked at the trade of carpentering, but for forty years he carried on huckstering and produce dealing, being so engaged at the time of his death. He was a Democrat in political matters, and was one of the first school directors of Brecknock township, helping to establish the public school system in the district. He was one of the early delegates to county conventions, and was well and favorably known throughout the district. He was the organist of Allegheny Reformed Church for more than thirty years. Mr. Rathman's 144-acre farm, in Brecknock township, near Knauer's, is still in the family name. In 1844 Mr. Rathman married Catherine Griffith, born in 1828, daughter of John and Polly (Brendel) Griffith, and to them three children were born: Marguerite, deceased, wife of Peter Shupp; Elbina, m. to Adam Kern, a farmer on the Rathman homestead; and Howard C., who was born eighteen years after his youngest sister. Howard C. Rathman was reared upon the farm, and at the age of fifteen years he learned the carpenter's trade, which he followed for two years. In 1885 he entered the Keystone State Norman School, attending four terms. He began his teaching career the same year that he entered the..."

In 1844 when Samuel was 26, he married Catherine (Kesiah) GRIFFITH, daughter of John GRIFFITH & Polly BRENDEL.[19] Born on 5 Feb 1827 in Berks Co, PA.[20] Catherine (Kesiah) died in Berks Co, PA on 8 Feb 1912; she was 85.[6]

They had the following children:
i. Marguerite. Born in 1843 in Berks Co, PA.[21] Marguerite died ? .

Marguerite married Peter SHUPP.
ii. Elbina. Born in 1849 in Berks Co, PA.[22] Elbina died ? .

Elbina married Adam KERN.
5 iii. Howard C. (1868-1940)

4. Peter RATHMAN. Born on 5 Jun 1826 in Berks Co, PA.[23] At the age of 1, Peter was baptized in Allegheny Reformed Church, Brecknock Twp, Berks Co, PA on 5 Jun 1827.[6] Sp: John Fetterling & Catharina. Peter died in Berks Co, PA on 28 Aug 1853; he was 27.[6] Occupation: Cooper of Flour Barrels.

1850 Census, Brecknock Twp, Berks Co, PA, Peter (age 22) is enumerated with the family of his brother, Samuel Rathman (age 32) and Samuel's wife, Kesiah. Another brother, William (age 34), is also included along with his wife, Maria. Both Peter and William were coopers of flour barrels. Peter was noted as a person over 20 unable to read & write.

He did not marry Sarah (Sallie) TROSTEL, daughter of William TROSTEL & Magdalena STEFFE. Born on 12 Jan 1830 in Brecknock Twp, Berks Co, PA.[24] At the age of 1, Sarah (Sallie) was baptized in Allegheny Reformed Church, Brecknock Twp, Berks Co, PA on 4 Mar 1831.[6] Sp: Sarah Brendel. Sarah (Sallie) died in Brecknock Twp, Berks Co, PA on 17 Sep 1883; she was 53.[25] Buried in Allegheny Reformed Church Cemetery, Brecknock Twp, Berks Co, PA.[26]

Buried in the old section of the Allegheny Lutheran and Reformed cemetery in Brecknock Twp, Berks Co, PA. The inscription on her tombstone reads, "In memory of Sarah T. wife of David Lebo, born Jan 12, 1830. Died Sept 17, 1883. Aged 53 years, 8 Mos & 5 Days."

They had one child:
6 i. Henry (1849-1931)

The relationship between Peter Rathman and Sarah Trostel is not all together known other than the fact that a marriage was unlikely. Sarah is Henry's mother according to Henry's death certificate and the census reports of 1850 and 1860 for Brecknock Twp, Berks Co, PA. Peter Rathman is Henry's father according to the church records of the Allegheny Reformed Church, Brecknock Twp, Berks Co, PA. Sarah did marry David Lebo probably abt 1857. Henry Rathman was baptised in 1859 along with Isaac, the son of David and Sarah Trostel Lebo, according to the Allegheny Reformed Church records.
