Obit: JERRY R. JACOBS, 68, BULLHEAD CITY, ARIZ. - Jerry R. Jacobs,
68, a resident of Silver Ridge Nursing Home, Bullhead City, Ariz.,
died there Saturday after a three-year illness. A former Lancaster
County resident, he joined the U. S. Air Force in 1941 and served
as a master sergeant, retiring after 21 years of service. Following
his military career, he worked for Borg Warner in California.
After his second retirement, Jacobs moved to Lake Havasu City,
Ariz. He enjoyed fishing on the lake there. Born in Lancaster,
he was the son of Bess Miller Jacobs, Leola, and the late George
C. Jacobs. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a daughter,
Candace, wife of James A. Commero, Mount Joy R3; two grandsons;
and four brothers: James U., Harrisburg; J. Robert, Lake Havasu
City; George E., Lititz; and Ralph N., Bear, Del.
Military: Sgt in World War II with the ground crew of the Army
Air Force.

in England and later became a paratrooper.

EARNS "BOOTS AND WINGS" - Sgt. Jerre R. Jacobs, son
of Mr. and Mrs George Jacobs of 321 E. Ross St., has earned the
"Boots and Wings" of the U. S. Army Airborne Troops.
He completed six weeks of combined parachute and glider training
at the Infantry School, Fort Benning, Ga., during which time he
made seven parachute jumps.

COUNTY SOLDIER HELPED IDENTIFY BODIES OF 21 IN PLANE CRASH - JERRE
R. JACOBS DECLINES TRANSFER TO MEDICAL UNIT AS RESULT OF WORK:
A nineteen-year-old Lancaster county soldier who received his
first military training as a member of the local medical unit
of the National Guard helped identify the bodies of Carole Lombard
and 21 others who died in the crash of a transport plane near
Las Vegas, Cal., on January 17. The soldier is Jerre R. Jacobs,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs, of Gordonville, stationed with an
Air Corps unit in the area where the crash occurred. As a result
of his work he has been offered promotion and a place in a medical
unit. He has declined and remained with his present outfit. He
intends to become an airplane gunner. Jacobs was one of a small
searching party that found the bodies. His training as a surgical
technician enabled him to do much of the work that led to identification
of the bodies. Jacobs' father was in the United States Navy during
the World War. Three sons are now in the armed forces.
