The name McDonagh is associated with a sept or family which traditionally was connected with the west of Ireland especially in the Galway district.
It has been said that the first McDonagh to come to the County Armagh village of Richhill was a blacksmith who took up employment and eventually settled down, it is from his our family is descended.
John McDonagh was that Blacksmith he and his wife Mary McClatchie settled in Richhill about 1846.
John and Mary Mcdonagh had four son's and one Daughter,
John, Thomas, William, James and Maria
James died unmarried
Maria married Robert Burns he was from Liverpool
John was born about 1844 have not found out yet if he was born in Richhill. John emigrated to America and later on went to Australia, his son became a Methodist minister in America, his daughter Elizabeth married a Callaghan from the Richhill district.
William married Philppa Gil about 1870 in Armagh, two children William and Minnie(Grace)
Thomas my Great Grandfather was born in Richhill in 1846 he married Annie Quinn on the 27 june 1870 in Belfast. Thomas and Annie had two children, Thomas William born 2nd Aug 1875 in Rhichill and Maria born 1871 Richhill.
Thomas W McDonagh my Grandfather first marrige was to Madeline Ross on the 1st April 1903 in Belfast. When on the have 4 son's and 3 Daughter.

Thomas William McDonagh left his home in Richhill in the late 1800’s
and went to Belfast to serve his time in cabinet making and joinery
in various companies including Haarland and Wolff. Here he is on the left at a building site in Stranmillis Road, Belfast
McDonagh was established in 1898 by Thomas William McDonagh, who began making tables and chairs in Richhill, Co. Armagh, Northern Ireland. Since then the second and third generation of the McDonagh family have been working in the business carrying on the tradition of quality with integrity. We like to think we have built up a reputation for satisfying our customers in an honest way with good old fashioned service and value.
Although the business was started in Richhill, and indeed some of the family still live in the original premises, the business has been based in Portadown since the 1920’s.
Over the years the company has accumulated skills in every aspect of furniture manufacture from cabinet-making and manufacturing to upholstery and polishing expertise
In 1934 Madeline Ross died and Thomas W McDonagh married to Isabella Rowan Fraser on the 1st April 1935 in Glasgow. And had one son Fraser Norman McDonagh.
Fraser married Mary Ann Dowson on the 17tn July 1956 in Glasgow and had two son and two Daughter.
Kenneth,Paul Angela and Sharon.
