Tryon, Willis J. :Willis J. Tryon, 14 years old, son of Mr. & Mrs. James Tryon of Barnett was killed by falling from a horse he was riding and frightening the animal so that is dragged him to death. The accident happened at the culvert near the Arthur Loving place about one half mile east of Ross Taylors house. Mr. & Mrs. Taylor and others who were in the yard saw the boy fall and could see the horse coming down the road dragging him. When the horse stopped it was found the halter had either been tied about the boy's leg or had became tangled by the fall as it held him fast until the back of his head was crushed on the rocks. There were sighs of life only a few minutes after the body was released. The boy was riding bareback and sitting on the horse sidewise. Slight scratches and bruises were found of the face, but not enough to disfigure. Dr. W.L. Allee was called and as the accident had happened in Miller County, N.J. Shepherd, justice of the peace and C.T. Blackburn, deputy sheriff were summoned to hold an inquest. they secured Dr. G.D. Walker's services and went to the scene, but as there had been witnesses to the accident, the body had been taken to Barnett without the necessity of an inquest. The Tryon boy and his little brother were on their way home from the G.A.R. Encampment Park where the father had contracted to do the pumping for the water supply, and had used the team to move his camping equipment. The father was called by telephone and C.O. Wilson took him to Barnett. Funeral services by Rev. G. B. Swartz of Barnett. Interment in Dooley cemetery.
