This site contains Strong Families of Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky,
Tennessee, Indiana and Missouri. These families are descended from Thomas Strong of Pittsylvania
County, Virgina. Thomas Strong was the son of William Strong of New Kent (Hanover) County,
Virginia. According to the Prayer Book of William Strong, Thomas Strong was born on December 16,
1739, possibly in Hanover County, Virginia. Hanover County was formed from the eastern part of New Kent
County around 1720. Around 1756 Thomas Strong and his brothers, William Strong and John Strong,
settled in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Around 1776 Thomas Strong may have moved to Rockingham County, North Carolina, and may have later died during the American revolution. Many of these Strong
familes moved from North Carolina to Russell County, Virginia. Some families later moved from Virginia
into the Cumberland Valley area of Kentucky and Tennessee in the late 1700's and early
1800's.
